Bollix

love, loss and living a life not waiting to die.

Bollix!

“I’m referring you for a heart transplant.”

I never thought I’d hear those words coming out of my cardiologist’s mouth. Thankfully they did and they became the inspiration for my book title.

Living with malfunctioning body bits has become somewhat of the norm for me. Not only am I a mate ūtaetae (breast cancer) survivor, but I’ve got a misbehaving heart that snuffed out my major sporting adventures and landed me on the road to assessment for a heart transplant. Oh, and did I mention I’ve got Parkinson’s too?

With all these experiences have come insights into how to live a life rather than just waiting to die. I can thank Kenzie for that one.

And after years of false starts and saying I’m going to write a book, now I am. I have secured a writing mentor and editor, the chapters are underway with a publishing date for 2024.

Four life lessons according to Bollix

“Rock-hard boobs from a double mastectomy and reconstruction – not great. Liposuction to plump up and shape them – surprisingly great.”

“I have no answers, right or wrong. All I have are my own beliefs and convictions about the whole thing and what I can do about it.”

“Malfunctioning heart be damned. Can’t bike? Get an e-bike. Can’t dive? Try snorkelling. Can’t ocean swim? Opt for ocean swimbles.”

At heart, I’m a planner. I like to have all the knowledge and information to hand. This allows me to accept what I can’t change, but also play the hand I’ve been dealt.”
